Children’s dentistry is free* under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule, introduced in 2014 by the Federal Government, provides eligible children between the ages of 2-17, access to up to $1,000 in benefits per child for dental services over two consecutive calendar years.
Dental services include:
- Examinations
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure Sealing
- Fillings
- Root Canal Therapy
- Extractions
- Partial Dentures
Specialist services such as orthodontic or cosmetic dental works and services provided in a hospital are not covered.
You do not need to register for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Eligible families and teenagers will get a letter from the Australian Government.
*Eligibility
Children and teenagers aged 2 to 17 years for any one day of the calendar year are eligible for Medicare funded child dental services, if they are part of a family that receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or the child receives an Australian Government payment from the list available at: humanservices.gov.au/childdental.
Eligibility entitles you to $1000 for dental services over 2 years. If you are unsure of your child’s eligibility, simply phone Healthy Bite Dental on 9430 3100. Alternatively, you can contact Medicare directly on 132 011.
Bulk Billing
Healthy Bite Dental will bulk bill you on the day for any services performed under this schedule. You don’t need to pay for services or submit a claim. The cost comes from your $1,000 benefit.
There is no GAP or out-of-pocket costs to families, as Healthy Bite Dental does not charge more than the amount covered by Medicare. Some dentists do, which means you must pay the difference.
